Our three destinations on Beth and Peter’s November wedding day included two old favorites — the Church of St. Patrick and the always-gorgeous Point Defiance Park — and one venue that we somehow had never stepped foot inside before, the Tacoma Yacht Club.

Beth and Peter decided to forego getter-ready photography in order to dedicate more of their photo budget to park portraits and reception coverage, so when we arrived at the magnificent stone edifice that houses St. Patrick’s (located only a few blocks from Wallflower HQ), we made quick work of family portraits, and then jumped right into the ceremony. The soaring ceilings and stained-glass windows of St. Pat’s never disappoint!

After signing their marriage license, Beth and Peter hopped into an antique Rolls Royce provided by Spanaway Thoroughbred Classics and headed to Point Defiance Park for portraits. Of course, the rains that had so mercifully held off to that point started up just in time for the only outdoors portion of the wedding day! But ruin our portrait session they mostly certainly did not, thanks to our wedding umbrellas, knowledge of Pt. D’s sheltered spots, and Beth and Peter’s excellent rain tolerance.

We started at the Japanese Garden, where we knew that beautiful fall color awaited.

Then we headed down Five Mile Drive (when Laura photographed the Rolls through our rain-smeared windshield to get her latest award-winning photo) to the sheltered pavilion at Owen Beach, which allowed us to get some umbrella-less outdoor portraits without ruining anyone’s hairdos.

The Tacoma Yacht Club is just a short drive from Point Defiance, located between the park and the future billion-dollar Point Ruston development. The club’s event space has tall, sloping ceilings that were adorned by paper lanterns in star and globe shapes, and dozens of strings of white lights. A few toasts kicked off the reception dinner — 8-months-pregnant Laura makes a cameo in the buffet line photo.

The cake was provided by Celebrity Cake Studio, and after they cut into it, we were treated to a rare cake smash. As soon as I saw that look in Beth’s eyes the second before, I knew to get ready! Obviously, Peter didn’t see it coming, judging from the astonished look on his own face.

After getting Peter cleaned up, Beth and Peter enjoyed their first dance, while kids watched from the second-story windows.

On our way out at night, I glanced behind me for one last look at Tacoma Yacht Club, and had to break out the tripod one more time to get this final shot of its unusual-shaped building, all lit up at night. Of course, by then the rains had quit again. Such is life in western Washington!

Congrats Beth and Peter!
