2010 was a banner year for Point Defiance Park weddings! Since most of our Point Defiance weddings are held at the Japanese Pagoda, Katie and Mark’s wedding at the Lodge was a nice change of pace for us.

Built in 1899 (predating Wallflower HQ by a year), the Lodge served as official home for the park superintendent for over 80 years — talk about a job perk! Inside, the house is subdivided into multiple small rooms, making it best for weddings of under 100 guests. Wood paneling, beamed ceilings, leaded windows and other period details beautify the indoor spaces, while outdoors, a wraparound verandah provides a lot of extra space, even on rainy days.

Mark and family prepared bouquets and table arrangements of dahlias in the kitchen while Katie got ready in one of the upstairs bedrooms. Their informal wedding attire helped to set a relaxed mood for the whole wedding day, and we enjoyed the splash of color that Katie’s dress provided! We kicked off our bride and groom portrait session on the verandah, and, fittingly, in the adjacent dahlia garden.

Then we hopped in our cars to head off to the park’s logging exhibit for a few portraits around the rusty railroad cars and tracks. We go here during engagement portrait session quite a bit, and Scott often takes his Senioritis Photography seniors there as well, but it’s rare when we get a chance to utilize its unique features on wedding days.

The ceremony took place in the Lodge’s yard, in front of a large wooden gazebo. It sure was a beautiful walk along the path from Lodge to gazebo for Katie and her dad!

Katie and Mark love to cook, so these heart-shaped measuring spoons made perfectly fitting wedding favors.

Reception tables were set up indoors and out, and the always excellent Occasions Catering set up a table full of delicious finger foods, plus their signature mashed potato martini bar.

The wedding cake (by Celebrity Cake Studio) was set up in the Lodge’s prettiest room, where the best man gave a toast before Katie and Mark cut out a slice. Katie warned Mark against cake smashing, and Mark had every intention to comply … except a big glob of frosting had other ideas, falling out of his fingers and onto Katie’s dress. She took delicious revenge on her shocked, terrified groom.

At the end of the day, the parents cut loose for a few songs, and even Grandma got into the action before everyone called it a day!
