Engagement portrait in native forest at Point Defiance Park in Tacoma, Washington, by Wallflower Photography

Point Defiance Park is a treasure trove for photographers. While our beloved rusty train cars and railroad tracks are, sadly, no more, we can still fill a 90-minute engagement portrait session at its rocky beaches and manicured gardens (Japanese, Rose and more). Heck, we’ve even dedicated an entire photo gallery on our new website to Point Defiance engagement portraits!

But the one aspect of Point Defiance that we’ve really neglected photographically over the years is its largest: the mostly undeveloped, native rain forest that fills up the vast center of our nation’s second-largest city park. So I was very excited when newly booked wedding clients Monica and Derek said that the forest was the only feature of Point Defiance they cared to utilize during their engagement portraits! And when the day of our scheduled shoot turned out to be quite drippy, Monica told me it would be “cute for pictures, being the rainy state and all” — and she was absolutely correct! Check out a dozen of my favorite photos from our shoot below, and then, in a few months, keep an eye out for highlights from their August wedding at Thornewood Castle, Wallflower’s fourth wedding there this year alone.
