Engagement portraits are a great opportunity for us to build rapport with our wedding clients, and vice versa — especially those who feel uncomfortable in front of the camera. Trust me, it’s much better to feel uncomfortable during an informal engagement session than on your wedding day!

I think building rapport was the main reason that Michele and Douglas scheduled an engagement portrait session, and I do think they felt a bit uncomfortable at first, but they warmed up just fine, and I got some great photos of the two of them, starting at Owen Beach.

Then we headed into my favorite patch of mossy rain forest for the remainder of our session. In general, I think the best photos of these two are the more candid ones, where they were free to attend to each other instead of the camera.

As we wrapped up and headed back to our cars, we spotted this rather large slug making its way along the road.

I don’t know if it was because of the experience of this engagement portrait session or because Laura and I were seriously on fire on their wedding day, but Michele and Douglas’ wedding portraits rock! Highlights from their wedding at organic farm/wedding venue The Fields at Willie Green’s will be featured here on the Wallflower Blog in a matter of days. Just you wait …
